2016 AGM

News update

Nearly 70 of our members turned out for our AGM at Meggetland Sports Centre on March 3rd.

The first task of the evening was to vote for names for our swans and for the living willow pirate ship. ‘Champions’ from the audience presented the shortlisted names and the winners were ‘Siegfried‘ for the male swan, ‘Brighid‘ for the female swan and ‘The Salty Dog‘ for the pirate ship.

Highlights of the past year included:

  • planting two wildflower meadows
  • getting petanque sessions started
  • building a play trail designed for pre-schoolers

Next year, we hope to:

  • complete the play trail
  • install seating in two new locations
  • ensure that the planned transfer of Craighouse lands benefits our community.

There was a special vote of thanks for the unsung army of informal helpers who help to protect our Local Nature Reserve in a whole variety of different ways.

The AGM concluded with a fascinating talk by Catherine Walker, Curator of the War Poets Collection at Napier Edinburgh University. Insights into the war poets were further enhanced by three powerful poetry readings by Margaret Marr, Elaine Turner and Kevin McKay.
